Design educators who work in higher education institutions are the permanent challenge of translating the creative design practice into pedagogy and curricula that the students prepare for entry into the world of work. This does not only contain with the current design modes, but also requires critical attention, such as the practice and discipline of the design with its material and increasingly intangible results with a complex and affiliated world being shaped and shaped.
Design courses require flexible curricula and dynamic pedagogical approaches to tackle such a flux, the changing needs of society and the question of the question of design and its relationship to sustainability and the current climate crisis.
In this work, I use the question of how design educators can discover different approaches to designing the pedagogy that can enable a transition for design formation towards long-term sustainability. Such a transition includes a critical review of how and where the design learning could be done to break with hegemonic orthodox in design practice, training and wider society. This dissertation is a practical investigation of the need to make design and educational activities to meet future work and professional practice as well as the emerging design areas for sustainability and social innovation in a non-sustainable world.
The main contribution of this study is a pedagogical framework that includes a set of mutually reinforcing modalities and navigation principles for design formation in a reorientation in the direction of long-term sustainable design practice.
About the candidates: Bruce Snaddon is a senior lecturer, communication design in the graduating and destruction levels in the Department of Applied Design, in the faculty for computer science and design at the Technical University of Cape Peninsula, taught. He has 25 years of experience in this environment and worked with colleagues to develop curricula and pedagogy that are awake and relevant to the world change. He considers a Mikphil in education (University of Cape Town, 2006) with research interests in phenomenological approaches to teaching and learning in design formation.
